Cheshire Police will be using mobile speed vans in an attempt to curb speeding vehicles on Morley Green Road.
A police spokesperson said "We have asked Cheshire East Highways to install some hard standing so that the mobile speed van has a location to pull up and enforce on this road which has been identified to have a speeding problem. These vans could be there two or three times a quarter of the year as this will be one of many sites that they have to visit."
The police cannot confirm when the hard standing will be installed as Cheshire East Highways needs to carry out land surveys and look in to planning and costs.
Residents of Morley Green Road have been campaigning for several years to stop drivers from speeding on Morley Green Road which is used as a "rat-run" by commuters, taxis goings to the airport and heavy goods vehicles.
Speaking about the situation last year, Morley Green resident Carol Wallace told me "The speeding traffic is appalling and I've rung the police a couple of times regarding dangerous driving/near misses and nearly been knocked off my bicycle whilst turning into my drive as cars have overtaken me on the right hand side as I was turning right.
"Every morning trying to get out of my drive is ridiculous and there's terrible tailgating from motorists in both directions as I drive along the road at 30. This is also experienced by my family who are drivers and other residents near me."
Nearly 30 residents of Morley Green Road highlighted the problem of excessive speeding in the area when they attended a Wilmslow Focus Group Meeting in 2013. Following this meeting Wilmslow Neighbourhood Police Team carried out speed enforcement on more than 20 occasions which resulted in over 30 tickets being issued and over 250 warning letters being sent out.
Wilmslow Local Area Partnership (LAP) created a sub-group to look at speeding issues around Wilmslow and particularly Morley Green Road, which included representatives from Cheshire East Council, Wilmslow Town Council and the Police.

Here's what readers have had to say so far. Why not add your thoughts below.
When the new airport freight terminal buildings (including the Amazon Fulfilment Centre) open for business I guess the amount of traffic on the A538 from Wilmslow to The M56 junction will increase substantially, as will the volume of traffic through Morley Green.
To quote from Field Of Dreams...."Build it and they will come!"
The traffic has more than doubled in the last 12 months
and as a resident who has been campaigning , also
actively involved with other residents on being involved
with a ( Speedwatch) for several months .
Morley Green Rd is a cut through as we've seen an increase
from 15000-32000 mostly spreeding on MGR!
So as a resident I couldn't disagree with the previous comment
more.
Where do you live Vince Chadwick?
"Rat Run.....
a minor, typically residential street used by drivers during peak periods to avoid congestion on main roads."
Your argument that Morley Green Road is a rat run appears to be based on an alleged increase in traffic, and alleged speeding traffic. Neither of those (even if true) constitute a 'rat run'.
Morley Green Road is not a 'minor residential street used to avoid main roads', it is (I say again) a legitimate route for traffic from the Mobberley area to access the A538.
Perhaps you should buy a new dictionary.
"Morley Green Rd is a cut through as we've seen an increase from 15000-32000 mostly spreeding on MGR".
Is this number of vehicles - and if so over what period? (per day is the usual figure you see quoted when referring to traffic counts - but it seems much too high if that is the case).
The main A538 had an average traffic count of 24,415 vehicles per day in 2015. Are you saying Morley Green Road is now busier than Altrincham Road? It's about the amount of traffic the A34 bypass carries (33,200 per day in 2015) - roughly one vehicle every 2.7 seconds on average (including through the night).
Where do you live? Your wholly inaccurate comments regarding "alleged speeding and increased levels of traffic along MGR only serve to highlight your obvious ignorance regarding the real issues and danger posed by speeding motorists on this road. I find your comments impertinent in regard to my using the term "rat run" to describe this road,a term used by many and I certainly don't need you you to instruct me as to its definitive meaning. I wonder if perhaps you are one of the many speeding motorists using MGR.
speed camera over a 10 day period, which proves how much traffic we
have to contend with.
survey was conducted by the Police using a camera.
It's you who miss the point.Google might also explain that the expression rat run is used in a very general way of describing the inappropriate use of a narrow winding dangerous route by impatient speeding motorists. Maybe when the police install their new hardstanding to enable them to commence a regular programme of catching speeding motorists then you may accept that the speeding is actual and not alleged as you put it.
About 10 years ago a bay for the parking of a speed camera van was built on Hough Lane, Wilmslow.
I have only seen 2 camera vans there during the intervening time..
Before Cheshire East is persuaded by the police for more of these on Morley Road, should we not ask the question, how many times has this been used in the last 10 years??Also there is one in Knutsford on Toft Road, but this is probably more profitable. If these are effective, surely the money raised should finance them from the fines applicable, rather than theinnocent Council Tax payers who do not speed?
It seems that the police want everything, ie early retirement , and so on.
