Share your memories of the Regal Ballroom and Cinema

A freelance writer and local history enthusiastic is currently writing a book about the history of Alderley Edge Festival Hall and would welcome local readers sharing their memories of this community facility which was originally built in 1928 as a venue for the Alderley Edge Music Festival and other civic events.

In 1938, due to financial difficulties, it was sold to a private buyer and became the Regal Cinema and Ballroom, staging dances, films, and in the 1960s, even wrestling matches.

John Wallace of Alderley Edge History Group will be looking at the origins of the Festival Hall in the 1920s through to the present day, and is particularly keen to hear from people with memories of the Hall when it was the Regal Ballroom and Cinema, from 1938 onwards.

John said "I'm especially interested in concerts, and dance staged there, as well as the names of groups who appeared on stage - and if anyone remembers anything about the wrestling matches that took place, that would be a real bonus!"

John has been asked to prepare the book by Councillor Geoff Hall, Chairman of Alderley Edge Parish Council and a member of the new Festival Hall's steering committee.

Please do share your memories via the comment box below and with John Wallace who can be reached via email.
