Plans to replace former care home with 44 apartments

Plans have been submitted for the demolition of a former care home in Handforth and construction of an apartment block on the corner of Wilmslow Road and South Acre Drive.

Wilmslow Property Developments are proposing to replace Cypress House with 44 apartments, 23 of which will be one-bedroom and 21 will be two bed-room apartments.

The proposed building has been sited to fall on a similar footprint to the existing two-storey Cypress House building and will be three storey with additional accommodation in the roof space.

The development will use the existing access road to the site off South Acre Drive to the parking area located to the side and rear of the building which will provide 47 car parking spaces.

The site was in use as a nursing home until 2006 and has been unoccupied since then.

Equity Housing Group were granted planning permission to demolish Cypress House in June 2015 and replace it with 13 two-bedroom houses which would be made available for affordable rent. However, Equity Housing Group withdrew the planning application in September 2016 so the Council decided to put the land at Cypress House up for sale again.

The planning application can be viewed on the Cheshire East Council website by searching for planning reference 16/2614M. The last date for submitting comments is 14th August and the application is currently scheduled to be considered by the Planning Committee at their meeting on 10th August.

Another excellent opportunity to reduce the greenfields in the CE local plan.
Like the apartments being built Wilmslow I hope that CE include them all in their count towards local plan housing targets.
Chances are, however, that they will try to ignore them, only counting what developers want counting and including, ie the greenfields they have purchased, that will be of far less value if not in the plan.

Ridiculous. This will only add to the congestion on Handforth roads.

What a fantastic opportunity for those who are looking to downsize and those looking to get on the property ladder.

The proposal is totally inappropriate for the area. I have no objection to developing the site but 3/4 storeys?. Two storeys would be far more in keeping with rest of the surrounding buildings.
