Plans to replace garages at Lindow Parade with three houses refused

Plans to replace a block of five garages at Lindow Parade with three houses has been refused.

The proposed development site consists of a single-storey garage block located behind a 3-storey block containing a mixture of retail units on the ground floor and upper floor apartments.

The plan was to demolish the garages, which are currently unused and front onto Buckingham Road, and replace them with a terrace of three dwellings, designed over two-and-a- half storeys.

Better Properties Ltd were refused planning permission on the grounds that the proposed development, by virtue of its height and scale, will have a harmful impact upon the Buckingham Road street scene and the character of the surrounding area.

Wilmslow Town Council's Planning Committee raised no objections to the planning application although a number of local residents did.

One resident of Lindow parade wrote 'We strongly object to this for loss of light, privacy, parking and noise. We feel this will block out light and impinge on our privacy. People will be able to see directly into our windows which are bedroom, bathroom and kitchen and we will have no privacy on the small balcony."

Another neighbour stated "My apartment is situation in the roof space of Lindow Parade and is not overlooked and enjoys un-interrupted views. I feel that the building proposed would cast shadows and block out natural lights from my windows added to that it would reduce and in fact all of the residential owners would have no privacy which we currently enjoy."

A third local resident wrote "Demolition of 5 garages to build 2.5 storey town houses is a complete overdevelopment of the site.

"The development would set a precedent because, as mentioned, there are no three-storey properties in the area. There have already been a few planning applications for three-storey extensions at the rear of properties but these have all been refused."

"...will have a harmful impact upon the Buckingham Road street scene and the character of the surrounding area." I had to read this several times. The site overlooks a carpark and a builders' yard.

"The development would set a precedent because, as mentioned, there are no three-storey properties in the area." Apart, of course, from the one you live in.
