Council offices bite the dust

Work is well underway to demolish the former council offices off Chapel Lane to make way for a new development of apartments for the elderly.

PegasusLife were recently granted planning permission for Chapelwood which will include 57 apartments. These will be a mixture of one, two and three-bedroom apartments, each with their own balcony, which will be exclusively available for people aged 60 and over.

The site comprised of two former council office buildings, a three storey house which was built around 1870 and known as the 'Remenham House' - pictured above. In addition to a flat roof two storey building which is reminiscent of a typical 1960's institution building. Both buildings were vacant with the last council employees who were based at Remenham House vacating the site in summer 2012.

The image above is a guide CGI so some details may change.

Three years to get this much progress? A classic example of a non optimal CEC planning process surely? CEC owned this site!

Wouldn't surprise me at all if national government doesn't get involved. The Local Plan hardly goes from strength to strength as we enter year 6. Something is wrong; badly wrong.

Let us hope that WTC can gain greater control over what is happening to Wilmslow, with some assertive independent thought, word and deed.

Finally, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and to yours, be they near or far o'er land or sea. I particularly include our CE Cllrs whom I'm sure will impress us under new leadership.

Although not an attractive house etc it was iconic inasmuch as having career talks whilst at High School also registering the children's births & more sadly parent's deaths. I never felt comfortable there as it never seemed welcoming!

Does anyone know what the Developers paid for this prime piece of Wilmslow real estate?

I'm interested as it was a publicly owned asset, sold by CE and it would be reassuring to know that they cut a good deal on our behalf.

@ Alan; one might have hoped that this would show up in the accounts of Engine of the North http://bit.ly/1VBb0zw (the asset-dealing Private Company set up by CEC) but there is absolutely no detail of any individual purchases or disposals. The 100 shares of this Company are divided 20 to CEC and 80 to Cheshire East Residents First Ltd (another Private Company set up by Cheshire East to... ummm... it's difficult to ascertain exactly what).
Anyway; Cheshire East Residents first Ltd. must be doing something really useful, judging by the remuneration claimed by their Directors http://bit.ly/1PHHx6u
