Over 200 children awarded for completing reading challenge

Wilmslow Library held three awards ceremonies on Monday, 21st September, for the hundreds of children that completed the 'Record Breakers' Summer Reading Challenge by reading six books over their summer holidays.

The three ceremonies were each attended by over 70 children, along with parents and carers, and librarians were delighted to welcome an important guest to each ceremony.

Jenny Norton said "At the 4.30pm ceremony we were honoured to welcome The Mayor of the Borough of Cheshire East. The 5.30pm ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Wilmslow Town Council Cllr Keith Purdom, who has already said he would be pleased to help at next year's ceremonies, and the 6.20pm ceremony was attended by friend of the library Erik Garner of Wilmslow Football Academy."

They each said a few words of congratulations to the children and then presented each one with a medal and certificate as recognition of their achievement.

Marg Charlesworth said "As well as congratulating the children we also applauded all the grown-ups that have supported the youngsters with their reading and brought them to the library during the holidays.

"As a surprise we gave gifts and certificates to the wonderful volunteers that have supported library staff with the reading challenge over the summer – their help was invaluable."

Overall 429 children joined the challenge at Wilmslow Library with an impressive 231 having completed it.
