Having obtained planning permission to erect a war memorial in Handforth, the trustees of the Handforth Community War Memorial Foundation are appealing to local residents to inform them if they know of anyone who may be eligible to be included on the memorial.

The war memorial will be located on the grass verge off Wilmslow Road to honour serving residents who fell in battle.

Charities Chairman, Anthony Harrison told wilmslow.co.uk "The charities trustees are working extremely hard to meet our deadline and have the memorial constructed and installed by Remembrance Sunday 2015 which this year falls on Sunday 8th November this year.

"I would personally like to thank every resident who has supported and contributed in making our charity a success. Handforth is a very special place to me and I intend to deliver a memorial for all to be proud of."

Several fundraising events have been held, including at Wilmslow Grange Summer Fair and Stanley Hall Park Fun Day. Volunteers have also sold charity wristbands at Tesco's Handforth Dean, cupcakes at Handforth Paddock Fair and held a charity tea dance at St Chad's Church.

Together they have raised over £24,500 towards their goal and hope to raise a further £5,500 to help cover inscription costs, insurance costs and future maintenance.

Anthony Harrison said "We would like to appeal to any local residents whom know of a family member, friend or resident of Handforth who may be eligible to feature on the memorial.

"To feature on the memorial we are looking for people who were born in Handforth or lived in Handforth at the time of mobilisation who have fallen in combat. Any information you can provide will help us justify their eligibility."

If there is someone you would like to recommend please email the Charities Chairman, Anthony Harrison.
