At Wilmslow Library the countdown is on for the start of the annual Summer Reading Challenge.

From Saturday, 4th July, children aged 12 and under can sign up to take part for free, by popping down to the library with their library card and collecting an information pack.

This year's theme is Record Breakers and there's a website packed full of games and blogs as well as a free App you can download.

Marg Charlesworth said "The challenge is to read any 6 library books over the summer and to come in after each two books and tell us all about them. During the visits children get free stickers and other goodies (watch out for the smelly feet stickers this year!)."

Everyone who completes the challenge is invited to a special ceremony in September where they receive a medal and a certificate for all their effort.

Marg added "We've also got some great events going on alongside the Challenge over July and August; watch out for the Super Hero Rhymetime and Craft, a Mad Hatter's Tea Party, cartoonist Marc Jackson's drawing workshop, a record breaker quiz and an animal handling session. Buy your tickets soon to avoid disappointment!"

On Saturday 11th July they are hoping to break the Guinness World Record for the most pledges received for a reading challenge and special guest Erik Garner of Wilmslow Football Academy will be at Wilmslow Library to help them.

Marg continued "You can make your pledge between 9am and 1pm even if you've already signed up and started reading. Mums, dads, carers and other family members can also pledge to support their children's reading so bring everyone along and let's see if we can all become record breakers!"

The 2015 Summer Reading Challenge takes place between Saturday 4th July and Saturday 5th September.
