It was more a Farewell to Handforth today (Friday 5th June 2015) as Handforth resident Wes Myers set off on his Handforth to Blackpool walk to raise money for the Handforth Community War Memorial.

Wes left Handforth at around 8:30am and should arrive in Blackpool some time on Sunday, having camped overnight en route.

So far, Wes has raised £500 for the memorial which is planned to be placed on Wilmlsow Road, Handforth in time for Remembrance Day 2015.

Janet Quinn, Project Manager at Handforth Community War Memorial Foundation, said " "The Trustees of the Handforth Community War Memorial are overwhelmed with the support from within the community, Wes is carrying out a tough challenge on what is forecast to be one of the warmest weekends of the year and we can't thank him enough for his fantastic fundraising efforts."

If you would like to support Wes on his way to Blackpool, you can donate at his Just Giving page.

The Handforth Community War Memorial Foundation (HCWMF) was established in November 2014 by a group of eight trustees to provide the village centre with a memorial to honour serving residents who fell in battle.
