Soldiers and residents run in memory of Lance Corporal Jamie Webb

Three members of the Mercian Regiment ran the Chester Half Marathon on Sunday, 17th May, in memory of their friend and colleague Lance Corporal Jamie Webb.

They were joined by local residents Lee Holt and Anthony Harrison to raise funds for Handforth Community War Memorial Foundation (HCWMF).

Lance Corporal Jamie Webb was tragically killed in Afghanistan in March 2013, he died as a result of wounds sustained during an insurgent attack on his patrol base in Helmand Province, just over a week before he was due to come home.

Anthony Harrison said "In total we raised over £1336 towards the cause and raised awareness of the truly heroic life that Jamie led and our fight to remember him and the many other local heroes who have fallen in combat from Handforth.

"It was a fantastic day and the support for both Jamie and our charity was outstanding. Everyone ran with tremendous pride to be running in memory of a truly courageous warrior."

The Handforth Community War Memorial Foundation (HCWMF) was established in November 2014 by a group of eight trustees to provide the village centre with a memorial to honour serving residents who fell in battle.

Jamie's father David said "I am really grateful to them for doing this. There were a lot of people there, they had a lot of support and it was for a good cause for the community war memorial.

"I think the fallen soldiers should be remembered. Our son Luke has researched and found some fallen soldiers that are not remembered on any memorial so their names will go on it along with Jamie's name."
