A specialist provider of affordable housing has applied to build a residential development on the site of a disused care facility in Handforth.
Equity Housing Group plan to demolish Cypress House, a redundant nursing home which has been empty for several years, and replace it with 13 two-bedroom houses.
The scheme for the site on South Acre Drive also includes associated highway and landscaping works and the provision of 20 car parking spaces along with 26 cycling spaces.
The site is currently owned by Cheshire East Council. If planning permission is granted the ownership will transfer to the applicant, Equity Housing Group.
The planning application can be viewed on the Cheshire East Council website by searching for planning reference 15/1581M. The deadline for submitting comments is 7th May and a decision is expected by 9th July.

Hmm! Interesting point.
Oh dear!
CEC, and with one of Wilmslow's "finest" councillor's in "charge", did not deter it from not granting planning permission to itself from itself on a previous occasion.
Don't mention Lyme Green, please.
After all with the ageing population we shall need more facilities like those which were provided in the past at Cypress House, and the current policy of closing facilities seems to be very short sighted, but then long term planning is not very apparent right now.
Another example of short term gain for long term pain ?
Modern/resourced - pretty much.
Well placed - yes.
The Wilmslow/Handforth/Alderley Edge community doesn't need these facilities for long term care of elderly, vulnerable persons? If not that, what about respite/short term nursing, recuperation/rehabilitation care? All evidence tells us there is a increasing/growing older generation!
We all know the slogan, "when it's gone, it's gone" - then what?
I fully agree with an earlier contributor, short term gains (and it's not the first time). A modern Handforth school was demolished just a few years back, now we have run short of infant/Junior age places, trying to make do by expensive overbuilding on other sites. The vacant site on Earl Road, Handforth Dean has also now been sold for development (probably a good thing) but where will the proceeds of that Handforth land sale go?
Conservative dominated CEC seems to be doing just whatever they like with assets they hold in trust for us, the local community.
Everyone has a chance on May 7th to show them what we think of their stewardship - have your say, use your vote to get them out of local government.
I'll be voting Conservative in the General Election but most definitely NOT that way for our local representation - think about it.
