Pubs use online messaging to help reduce crime and disorder

Members of Wilmslow Pubwatch have set up a new means of communicating with each other to preempt crime and anti-social behaviour in their licensed premises.

They are now using a popular online messaging application which enables the police and members of Pubwatch to share information quickly and efficiently in a private group.

PCSO Chris Hopkins said "The police and its Pubwatch partners have already made good use of the application, recently a male was in the area attempting to pass counterfeit £50 notes to premises in Wilmslow, within a couple of minutes there was a description passed to all the members and a short time later an image was also shared that was captured on a premises CCTV camera.

"Although on this occasion we were not able to trace the male, utilising the application has prevented the male from being able to use the counterfeit currency in other premises."
