Town Council vacancy left until May elections

wilmslow

Wilmslow Town Council has decided to wait until the May elections to fill a vacancy.

The vacancy has arisen in the Dean Row Ward because Don Glover emigrated to New Zealand a couple of months ago.

Normally an election would be held if ten voters in the Dean Row Ward submitted a written request for an election and two or more candidates were nominated, however this option is not available as it is within six months of the local elections.

The vacancy could be filled by the Town Council, who are at liberty to select who they wish provided the person qualifies to be a councillor, but they have decided, given the close proximity to the local elections, to wait until 7th May when voters will be asked to turn out to elect their Member of Parliament as well as their local representatives to Cheshire East Council and Wilmslow Town Council.

Why did Don Glover ever stand for election - at taxpayers expense? You don't decide to emigrate, especially to the opposite side of the world, at the drop of a hat!
