Lacrosse: Wilmslow hold top spot

With last weeks game postponed due to unplayable pitches Wilmslow's 1st team set out for the first game of the year away to Sheffield University; a team who defeated Wilmslow in the first clash.

Wilmslow still held top spot in the league having enjoyed a successful start to the campaign and going into the match knew a win was essential to keep promotion and a potential championship firmly in sight.

Wilmslow started strong winning the first quarter 3-0 with Pearson and the strong defence keeping Sheffield out.

Jones, Worth, Boyer & Cooper dominating at the back ensured the second quarter saw another clean sheet for the Wilmslow 1st's. Going forwards Wilmslow held the ball well and created excellent movement throughout the attack and created some delightful team goals. Aussie's Witt & Kessing both on the score sheet and Jordan with an outstanding performance. Wilmslow led at the half 5-0.

The second half started well with Green, Smith (C) and Witt all on the score sheet and excellent support and play throughout from the midfield with Northrop, Wilson and Acton. Defence still strong lead by Worth & Jones saw the ball pushed back for Wilmslow to attack the Sheffield goal. Wilmslow led the 3rd 10-2.

Wilmslow put the game to bed in the final quarter with coach Hodkin pushing the team to remain tight at the back and enjoy control going fowards. Kessing showed superb leadership, vision and athleticism which spurred the team on.

Wilmslow closed the game in style with a great finish from the captain.

Final Score 16-2
