Lacrosse: Wilmslow bounce back

lacrosse

Wilmslow made the long journey up to to Newcastle on Saturday and were looking to make amends after last weeks loss to Sheffield University.

It was looking like it was going to be a hard fight with Newcastle having some good results and Wilmslow struggling with a few big injuries.

Wilmslow started quickly grabbing two early goals courtesy of the Mountney brothers, some impressive ball movement and clinical finishing.

Face off's were dominated by Mike Jordan and Luke Keesing allowing Wilmslow to hold possession and slow the game down.

Newcastle used their larger squad well and were able to grab a couple of goals back before the end of the first half but with further goals from Keesing, Jordan and Chris and Jon Mountney, Wilmslow led at the break 2-11.

The second half saw Wilmslow start to tire and it was their experience which allowed them to push on. Long spells of possession forced Newcastle to come and play wide defence and the Wilmslow attack punished accordingly.

With more goals added in the second half including one a piece for Witt and Burgess, Wilmslow closed out the game for a 8-17 victory.

Now the first half of the league season comes to a close for the Styal road 1st team, they will be working hard to their two week break, with the aim of going the rest of the season undefeated.
