Poppy Appeal needs you

The Wilmslow branch of The Royal British Legion is seeking extra volunteers to help collect for their annual Poppy Appeal which will take place in Wilmslow from October 25th to November 8th.

Every year The Royal British Legion calls on people from all walks of life to come forward to offer just two hours of their time to help make the appeal bigger and better.

Khumi Burton County Poppy Appeal Organiser for East Cheshire said "It is a period of intense activity for our volunteers and we need more people to sit and man Poppy stands inside the Sainsbury's and Waitrose stores.

"We also need help with distributing the boxes of poppies to various offices, shops, schools in the Wilmslow area."

The Wilmslow Air Cadets and the Army Cadets have kindly agreed to collect on Grove Street on November 1st and 8th from 9.30 am to 5 pm onwards. Whilst both Sainsbury's and Waitrose have agreed to do bag packing for the appeal - so willing hands are also needed.

Khumi added "Over the years Wilmslow has done well and lets hope and make sure that 2014, which is the 100th Anniversary of WW1 is the best. Please be generous with your time and donation."

So far in Wilmslow the British Legion has raised just over £26,000 and with additional volunteers they hope to do more this year.

The Poppy Appeal makes it possible for the Royal British Legion to help and support the armed forces, past, present and their families. Over 40 million poppies are made each year by volunteers and distributed across the county and overseas by more than 350,000 collectors, aiming to raise around £37million.

If you are able to volunteer your support for the 2014 Wilmslow Poppy Appeal please email Kate Hewison, Poppy Appeal Organiser Wilmslow, or call her on 07802 73568. Alternatively email Khumi Burton, who is organising the rota for the poppy appeal and the bag packings, or call her on 01625 548664.
