Teddy bears move in at Wilmslow Fire Station

Teddies 2

If you go down to Wilmslow Fire Station - you'll be sure of a big surprise!

The station has become the temporary home to over 80 teddy bears, after a local Mothers' Union group knitted them as trauma teds.

Firefighters will be distributing the bears, which have all been hand-knitted by members of the Chester Diocese Knutsford Deanery Mothers' Union, who spent several months on the project.

Watch Manager, Leigh Mullin, from Wilmslow Fire Station welcomed the bears to the station. He also gave the group a guided tour around the fire station as a thank you for all their hard work.

Leigh said: "Unfortunately we attend all sorts of incidents where, sadly, children are involved. Although we continually try to prevent accidents in the home and on the road, with our various awareness initiatives, we do still get them.

"These teddy bears are really lovely and will come in very useful. We have a handful of them sat on our fire engine and they will stay there until they are needed to provide a bit of comfort to a child."

The bears all have a tag which says where they have come from.

Sheila Rayner from the Mothers Union said: "We used to knit these teddies to be sent overseas but we decided to look to closer to home this time. Firefighters seemed like the ideal distributor.

"It really was a group effort knitting all the bears and we have loved every minute of it."
