The lacrosse season is once again underway and Saturday saw a very pleasing result for Wilmslow's U16's team.
Turning up to play rivals, Poynton, with only 7 players was a tough call to begin with but, against all the odds, Wilmslow played with passion and determination to secure a convincing win.
They were three men short of a full team and turned up to play a very strong and well manned team at Poynton. Some weaker men may have been intimidated at the sight of Poynton warming up before the game, on what can only be described as a beautiful autumnal morning, but not Wilmslow. This new and young team played with the strength and confidence of a team that has been together for years, communicating throughout the game, and showing great skill in their effortless passing and catching of the ball.
The game ended 5-9 to Wilmslow with Matt, Frazer and Jack all enjoying goals. Man of the match was awarded to Wilmslow's goalkeeper for an outstanding performance in goal!
A thoroughly enjoyable game to watch, witnessing a wonderful show of sportsmanship and strong team playing skills. This young team will certainly be a force to be reckoned with throughout the coming season!
A special mention must also go to Poynton U16's, they also played a great game and were spirited enough to lend three of their players to Wilmslow which, when all is said and done, allowed the game to go ahead.
Both teams should be very proud in what has certainly started the season in style!
