Hockey: Wilmslow 2s celebrate another promotion

Mens 2s Promotion PJupp

After a successful 2011/12 campaign for Wilmslow 2s, which eventually resulted in promotion, hopes were high going into 2012/13 and such aspirations proved well founded as Wilmslow secured a second straight promotion.

A few players had left in the close season and it showed in the early games as new players took time to bed in, Wilmslow taking just 5 points from their opening 6 games. Once the new squad was up-and-running it was a totally different story though, a run of 10 wins from 11 matches mid-season catapulting Wilmslow into the promotion places, before some gritty efforts on the run-in secured second place by a relatively comfortable 5 points.

Players' player went to Ali Revell, who stepped into central defence and produced a string of authoritative performances, while the Captain's pick went to Tom Corby, who made a real impact in his first season at the club, ending the campaign with 14 goals and forming a crucial forward pairing with Jamie Thorpe, who himself hit the target 15 times.

Dan Toal signed off before going to university with another fine season at left back, while the mid-field axis of Mike Hough, Pat Jupp and James Dukes provided experience, some important goals and bite in the tackle. Due to play in

Division 4 next season, the excellent team spirit within Wilmslow 2s means they should be in for another strong campaign, with a third promotion in as many years the aim.
