Friends of The Carrs extend Jubilee Wood

The Friends of The Carrs planted approximately three dozen trees on Saturday, 16th March, to extend the Jubilee Wood at The Carrs.

The planting of the Jubilee Wood was started in the Autumn last year when around 40 saplings were planted, most of which were donated by the voluntary groups involved in the project.

The trees planted this week included oak, beech, whitebeam, cherry and birch. In addition some trees were also planted in two other areas of The Carrs, to in fill gaps left by previous plantings undertaken by The Friends.

Colin Shepherd, Chairman of The Friends of The Carrs, said "The trees were donated by The Woodland Trust and The National Trust to both of whom we are very grateful.

"The planting yesterday just about completes the Jubilee Wood in so far as trees are concerned but at a future date it is anticipated there will be grass and wild flower seeds sown to complete the reclamation of the area behind the old tennis courts and to give added colour to The Carrs.

"The Friends would like to thank Incredible Edible, Transition Wilmlsow and Wilmslow Town Council for there support and help in establishing the Jubilee Wood."

The next Friends of The Carrs event is their litter pick on Sunday 21st April, volunteers will meet at 2pm at the Parish Hall car park.
