Flag up Wilmslow's 'grot spots'

Wilmslow Town Council is organising another spring clean next month and would like our readers help in identifying the worst areas in the town.

The clean up operation will take place during the last week of April when many businesses and volunteers will come together to smarten up the towns streets, gardens and hedge rows.

Matthew Jackson, Clerk of Wilmslow Town Council, said "We would like help in identifying the town's grot spots.

"We have a number of volunteer groups who have come forward and will concentrate on specific areas but we also have other groups and individuals who don't have specific projects.

"So if readers can help by identifying trouble spots we will then prioritise them, work out what is feasible with the team we've got and find out what sort of work is required in each area."

The spring clean will take place during the week commencing 29th April.

Please share your opinion regarding Wilmslow's 'grot spots' via the comment box below or contact Matthew Jackson, Town Clerk, on 01625 402907.

Chapel lane needs a really good clean up.There is a lot of litter and it is never cleaned despite asking the council to please do it.

The biggest eyesore in Wilmslow is on Green Lane at the side of Tesco Express where they permanantly store rubbish in full view, not sure that a clean up teams can do anything about this!

Agree about Chapel Lane, it seems to be forgotten. At the end nearest town, where there are always parked cars, the leaves have not been cleared for about 2 years and the drains are blocked. Also litter near the Take Aways and along the first part of Moor Lane where the Take Away cartons are disposed of.

Good initiative. Have a look on Grove Way behind the shops on Water Lane and Grove Street. Shame them to tidy up in their own back yard....

Parkway and the entrance pathway to sainsburys carpark from Parkway please and the behind hedges near sainsburys car park. Broadway and the green near wilmslow high school opposite the houses. Opposite chill banana on alderley road. Agree chapel lane near church also.
Alderley road from sainsburys heading south to the roundabout. Knutsford road.
Holly road south. Holly road north is done almost daily :) by me. Perhaps wilmslow high school children can help .
The pathway which starts at the bottom of holly road north by school roundabout and runs between the school and the railway line leading to the leisure centre.

Not sure whether the entrance / exit to motorway M56 counts as wilmslow.

I agree with Ms Hindle, all public pathways leading to Wilmslow High School are strewn with litter, including the nature pond and Leisure centre pathways.Namely sweet/crisp packets, with empty cans thrown into hedges. The tidy up is a great idea, but isn't it about time the High school pupils were held accountable?
If they were forced to do spend an afternoon picking up litter, perhaps they would think twice next time they throw it. The Railway bridge over the By pass is disgusting. Covered in foul language graffiti and rubbish . Surely the council should appeal to British Rail????

I meant to say what happens after this clean up. Will East Cheshire continue to keep up the good work of wilmslow residents.?
East Cheshire needs to take ownership of this and know clearly that they are failing. Question remains how many other things they are failing at and the person in charge or team has to be sacked as he or she can't do the job. It's not rocket science!! This not about money, it's simple management.
Learn from Stockport council, they can do it.
May I suggest that wilmslow high school could employ someone to patrol at least 500 yards outside the school from all exits, have signs /fines in place and cameras could help .

I also agree with Chapel Lane, especially on the corner of Buckingham Road, but in my view the worst spot is the path by the side of Lindow Common on the Altrincham Road. It would seem a lot of the litter here is thrown out of cars driving into the town and then blows on to the common.

I agree that Chapel Lane could use some love and attention! I do commit to litter-picking the section from Bedells Lane to Bourne St on a regular basis.

Thanks to Rehana Hindle for picking up litter on Holly road South. I also think it is a good idea for the school to put someone on litter collection in the surrounding roads, since they cause most of the problem. Thanks to Stephen Moulton for picking up litter near my office on Chapel Lane. I seem to be seeing more dog mess, which gets a bad name for all dog owners.

I totally agree with Rihana. Stockport is so well run.Can we please sack our Cleansing Manager and offer the job to Stockports .Nothing seems to get done in Ches. East, only discussing house development, brownfield sites, green field sites. and Lyme Green fiasco. What do our Councillors talk about at the monthly meetings,(expenses) .

The alternative is we all join up with Stockport. Having lived in Bramhall and Cheadle Hulme for many years, and many years in Wilmslow. The difference is outstanding. Clean streets, leaves cleared, lovely paving and street furniture, great floral displays, with lovely hanging baskets. In Wilmslow you can report any ongoing problems in the town to Mathew,or Helen, are Parish Council staff. They are in the parish hall at the Carrs car park.

This once a year clean-up by volunteers is now a joke on us. Can someone in the town tell us who is paid, how much, and what sort of cleaning schedule is contracted out.

I agree with all the above comments about Chapel Lane and the corner of Moor Lane - it's going down hill - it's such a shame as this part of Wilmslow used to be a pleasure to live in - we pay plenty of Council Tax in Wilmslow. Has anyone been to Wythenshawe Centre? I have on a few occassions, I have seen the road sweepers and litter pickers going about the work - the walk way in the centre is litter/chewing gum free - never seen this in Wilmslow. The path outside Multiyork and along the Hoopers front - is full of chewing gum and cigrette ends.
