Plans for 23 new homes on edge of Handforth

DSC_2718

Plans have been submitted for a residential development of 23 dwellings on the northern edge of Handforth.

The proposal is for 13 houses and 10 apartments with car parking on a site previously occupied by Peacock Farm. These will be a mix of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes with gardens and an apartment block offering 1 and 2 bed apartments.

The site, located adjacent to the B5358 Wilmslow Road, is currently disused and derelict.

Two planning applications for residential development at this site have been made in recent years. In 2011, part of the site obtained planning permission for 13 dwellings (reference 11/0770M).

This new application seeks to extend development to the northern part of the site, which is part of the green belt and was previously under tree preservation orders - these have recently been removed due to poor quality and ill-heath.

A similar application for 24 dwellings across the whole site was refused in in October 2010 (reference 10/1841M). This application did not propose any affordable housing which was one of the reasons outlined for refusal.

This new application (reference 13/0085M) includes 25% affordable housing, which equates to 6 new affordable dwellings.

The planning application can be viewed of the Cheshire East Council website by searching for planning reference 13/0085M.

What a stroke of luck that the trees were felled. I am sure that the council looked into this and that this was the case ?

yes, seems like more dodgy routes around planning... the trees were fine! Similar happened when they removed [accidentally...not!] the listed building that was peacock farm and applied for permission to erect the fence [after the event!]. What is now another block of apartments across the road achieved planning in a rather dubious way too... it didn't go un-noticed that planning was refused then someone 'moved' in to one of the old bungalows and planning re-submitted... seems the occupants were in some way connected to the builders as he ho planning appeared. Now this area of Handforth is well and truly over run with apartment blocks... and they want to build more!? It all seems to make a mockery of planning rules.

Absolutely, Alison. When it means more money for CEC and developers, planning rules are conveniently overlooked to pack in as many houses as possible. Of course, trees get in the way.

I have experienced this at first hand from the current development on the old School site at Dean Row Road. Lots of opportunity to comment but all fall on 'deaf ears' and once planning is approved, a flurry of 'revisions' to the original plans, all approved by someone sitting at a desk in Crewe.
