Double celebration for Diamond Jubilee couples

Couples celebrating their Diamond Wedding Anniversary this year will be special guests at a service to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Three local couples who were married in 1952 will be attending the service of celebration and thanksgiving being held at St. Bartholomew's Church on Sunday 24th June.

Mr Stanley and Mrs Joan Head of Cumber Lane, Mr Alan and Mrs Pat Parfett of Mottram St. Andrew and Bill and Joyce Gallaher of Mobberley will cut a celebratory cake at the end of the service, while local crooner Alan Burton serenades the congregation.

The service is being organised by Wilmslow resident Khumi Burton, as an acknowledgement of the life and the work of Her Majesty, the Queen, and will take place at St. Bartholomew's Church on Sunday 24th June at 3pm.

Also amongst the guests at the special service will be the Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire, David Briggs and his wife Michelle, Councillor George Walton, Mayor of Cheshire East, who will be accompanied by his wife Mrs Veronica Walton, Kathy Cowell Deputy Lieutenant and Margaret Melrose Deputy Lieutenant.

Cllr Wesley Fitzgerald along with representatives from local town and parish council are expected to be joined by members of the British Legion, comrades of the Cheshire Regiment, some local residents and representatives from local organisations and charities.

Khumi told wilmslow.co.uk "The reason I am organising this for all of us in Wilmslow to appreciate what Her Majesty the Queen has done for this Country.

"I am very proud to be living in this country and I feel that by having this Celebration Service we are acknowledging her as an example for all of us in a small way to follow. I am doing it as a long time resident of Wilmslow. I hope the Church will be full because at the end of the day it is once in a lifetime celebration service. It is not going to come in any one's life time for years to come."

The service will be led by Rev Dr. Paul Smith and guests are welcome to wear uniform, medals, decorations and hats to mark this occasion.

The Celebration Service for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee will be held at St. Bartholomew's Church on Sunday 24th June at 3 pm, guests are requested to be seated by 2.45 pm.

If you would like to attend please email Khumi Burton for further information.
