Thorngrove Park residents unite to save green belt

Wilmslow Vision Meeting

Another Wilmslow residents group has been set up in the wake of the Draft Wilmslow Vision document.

Residents from Thorngrove Park held their first meeting on Friday, 18th May, at the leisure centre.

Over 50 people attended the 'Keep Prestbury Road Green Belt Green' meeting which was also attended by local councillor and resident Rod Menlove, who was on hand to answer questions and listen to residents concerns about the Wilmslow Vision document.

Speaking at a previous residents meeting in April, Councillor Menlove made it clear he was against development on the green belt, saying "My view is no development in Green Belt, including the potential gypsy site. If any of these sites are in green belt they can be discounted."

This latest residents group has been set up to stop areas 'Aa and Ab' in the Vision being considered for development. The meeting closed with an overwhelming 'No' vote to development on the Prestbury Road Green Belt.

Meeting organiser Tony Dillon said "I'm delighted that Thorngrove Road area residents now have a voice along with the rest of Wilmslow in saying 'No' to the development on green belt land in Wilmslow and I'm very grateful to Councillor Menlove for attending and listening to our concerns.

"I recognise that a Town Plan is essential to protect the future of our town, but Wilmslow is a unique and highly desirable location and we must do all we can to protect it and that means having a well thought out and considered consultation process.

"In its current form, the Vision document would be a disaster for this town and I urge Cheshire East and Wilmslow councillors to think again as regards this document and listen Wilmslow residents when we say 'No' to development on green belt."

Tony Dillon intends to keep Thorngrove Park area residents informed of developments via leaflets and emails. The group has also set up a petition objecting to development on areas Aa and Ab which Tony Dillon intends to present to Cheshire East Council next month.
