Wilmslow Town Council are looking at ideas for how the town can celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
Initial plans for the special 4-day weekend, at the beginning of June, include a picnic party in The Carrs.
Wilmslow Town Council has set up a working group to look at ideas for celebrating this significant achievement of Her Majesty.
Matthew Jackson, Clerk of Wilmslow Town Council, confirmed at this week's town council meeting "the working group is working towards some initial ideas, which include a picnic party in the park, hopefully with some entertainment."
Plans are at a very early stage, but the date the Town Council are looking at is Monday June 4th, which is a Bank Holiday. They are meeting with Cheshire East Council this week to discuss plans and the use of The Carrs.
Wilmslow resident Dave Cash, who attended the town council meeting, suggested that the Sunday might be a more appropriate day given it is the day of the national Big Picnic and because parking charges will still be in place on the Bank Holiday Monday.
Cllr Ruth McNulty said "My understanding is that Cllr Rod Menlove is trying to organise parking on Broadway and buses to bring people down to The Carrs."
Matthew Jackson added "We are pursuing some other things, including looking at planting some trees from the Woodland Trust.
"We are also giving some thought as to how we can bring members of the public into the working party."

Official national events inc
Sun 3 June - Thames River Pageant and Big Party
Mon 4 June – Lighting the national chain of signal beacons
The Big Party idea is to simply focus on community, friendship & fun (& raise money for local projects?).
A Big Party in the Carrs is a great idea, with everyone bringing a family picnic for the day. (Sun 3rd?) Entertainment could be provided by local groups eg bands, open-air plays, sports & other activities.
This could be preceded by a Carnival Floats procession, with floats provided by local schools, groups & businesses. Theme: 1952 - 2012 ..to highlight their community involvement.
Monday 4th could see a signal Beacon lit on the Carnival Field in the evening, with a daytime Funfair, local group stalls, perhaps an extra Artisan Market, displays & demonstrations etc.
Each event / activity / stall would require at least one volunteer to organize.
Ideally, all this should be self-funding, with Wilmslow Town Council co-ordinating & contributing Events Liability Insurance and assisting with Police & Cheshire East etc liason.
Ideas / comments / volunteers urgently required. Please add them to this article’s Comment section.
Note: if want to arrange a street party for your road, CEC has set a notification deadline of 9th April.
