A new fashion store which opened in the town centre on Saturday has been completely overwhelmed by the response from local residents.
Fizz, which sells high fashion clothes, accessories and jewellery has moved into Grove Street, in the building previously occupied by Blacks.
The shop, which was up running within 48 hours, was completely mobbed with customers on Saturday - many of whom couldn't believe the prices.
This is the fourth store for partners Maureen Jackson and Lorraine Davies who went into business together 28 years ago. They set Fizz up in 1938 and have three other shops in Hyde, Ashton Under Lyme and Shaw.
Maureen, from Marple, said "By 2pm on Saturday we were mobbed, people were queuing for 30 to 40 minutes to pay so I had to ring for extra help. Some customers were buying twelve scarves at a time and at one point people were grabbing them out of the box before they could be put on the fixtures. It was like the first day of a sale!
"We have been amazed by the reception, customers have told us it's just what Wilmslow needed. It's been quite an eye opener for me because what I think is generally normal, in terms of price, people in Wilmslow don't think is generally normal.
"The stock is fresh, nicely merchandised and we are not being greedy. We've been serving all ages, from young girls to the classic lady in her 60's, who knows a bargain and quality."
Maureen is friends with the owner of the building so the initial plan was to open a temporary shop until the middle of January but given the initial response they may well revisit the plan.
Maureen told me "I don't know if it is going to be a permanent thing. The reception has been unbelievable, people have been really really nice and very appreciative so we'll take a view on it in January."
Their main business is holding fashion shows in the evenings and amongst their famous clients is actress and TV presenter Denise Welsh who described Fizz as "my fave shop".
Denise popped down to the store on Saturday afternoon and tweeted "Fizz opens in Wilmslow!!! I'm in heaven!!!! Everyone talking about the prices!!!!"
