Styal residents and the National Trust are celebrating following the announcement that extra rail services will be added, making it easier for people to visit Styal by rail.
Trains ran every half hour from Styal until the early 1990's when they were drastically cut, and up until three years ago there were only eighteen trains a week.
In 2008 a campaign group was formed to increase the number of trains stopping at the station, with support from residents, Styal Village Association, HMP Styal, the National Trust and the Community Rail Partnership.
Services have since increased to a fifty trains a week and Sunday services have been reintroduced.
Campaigners are now celebrating the addition of two extra services from Monday to Saturday which will stop at Styal at 10.46am and 4.46pm, en-route from Manchester to Wilmslow. It is hoped that additional northbound services may be provided in due course if the train timetable permits.
Eleanor Underhill, General Manager for National Trust at Quarry Bank Mill in Styal said: "I'm delighted to hear that Northern Rail are increasing the number of trains stopping at Styal Station. The station is only ten minutes walk from this property so this makes a big difference."
John Swinbourne, Chairman of Styal Parish Council said: "We've been campaigning for this for a long time. It's good for links to HMP Styal and the National Trust and we're pleased more people will be able to visit our village."
