A mother-of-two from Wilmslow proved she had the right ingredients for success during a Master Chef-style cook off.

Deanna Thomas, a chef and food writer, won the Roberts Bakery ‘Use Your Loaf’ competition and will now reproduce her ‘Cheshire Breakfast Salad’ in front of a live audience at the Cheshire County Show.

She will be joined on the cooking podium by local celebrity chef Jason Palin in the Food Live Theatre on Wednesday, June 22nd.

Deana said “I’m really pleased to have won this competition. I love food and enjoy cooking for people so when I heard about the competition for a chance to do a cookery demonstration with Jason at the show I had to enter.

"I’m a real fan of the Cheshire Show and try to go every year to keep up to date with our region's wonderful food producers. It’s a real bonus for me as it’s usually held on my birthday too.”

Roberts Bakery set the chefs the challenge of using bread in a battle of the tasty dishes.

Deanna and fellow finalists Allan Jones and Andrew Felton, both from Crewe, were invited to the cook off, which was judged by Jason at the Cheshire Cookery School in Altrincham, after a judging panel chose their recipes from those submitted through the Roberts Bakery website.

“All three dishes were absolutely delicious but Deanna’s recipe in particular appealed because of its use of local produce and because it is a wonderful colourful dish that is perfect for the summer,” said Jason.

Deanna, 38, studied to be a chef at South Trafford College and writes her own online food blog as well as writing reviews for other local online publications. She is also the original founder of North Star Delicatessen in Chorlton.

As well as winning the opportunity to demonstrate her dish in front of a live audience at the Cheshire County Show she received a pair of tickets to this year’s Cheshire County Show and a year’s supply of Roberts Bakery bread.

The Cheshire County Show takes place on Tuesday 21st June and Wednesday June 22nd. For more information visit the Cheshire County Show website.
