40th anniversary concert raises £1000

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Laurence Singers and St Ann's Hospice, the Laurence Singers held an anniversary concert in aid of St Ann's Hospice at Wilmslow United Reformed Church on May 14th.

The church was full with over 200 guests joining in the celebration which raised £1000 for the hospice.

Cliff Crewe, Musical Director the Laurence Singers, said "Almost two years ago the choir presented a movement from a 'Requiem for George Butterworth' written by Roger Shelmerdine, a local composer from Altrincham. This movement was very well received at that concert and since then Roger has completed the Requiem and dedicated it to the Laurence Singers. It was recorded professionally in March (with a view to being broadcast on radio), and had its premiere at the 40th Anniversary Concert. This first performance was very well received so we're all very pleased."

During the past 40 years the Laurence Singers, a registered charity based in Cheadle Hulme, have supported the Hospice, as well as other worthwhile causes, to the tune of over £10,000 from funds raised at their concerts.
