Fire crews attended a car fire on the Colshaw Estate in the early hours of Sunday, 3rd April.
A Vauxhall Corsa was discovered to be well alight on the grassed area between Appleton Walk and Gorsebrook Grove at 1.11 am.
After extinguishing the fire the crews requested the attendance of the police as they suspected the vehicle to have been stolen and the fire to have been started deliberately.
Police cannot confirm at this stage whether the Corsa was stolen but it is known that the same vehicle was used to steal petrol shortly beforehand.
The drive off was committed at the Shell garage on Adlington Road in Wilmslow where £25 worth of petrol was taken at 12.50 am.
Police are continuing with their investigations and are appealing for any witnesses to either incident to come forward.
