A nurse from Handforth has been nominated for the title of 'Cheshire Woman of the Year'.
Penny Millington, a community nurse for Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP), has been nominated for the work that she does with children who have severe learning disabilities in Macclesfield.
Penny, who was recently awarded the title of Queen's Nurse for supporting families and extended carers to improve quality of life, said: "It is a great honour to receive such a nomination. I am very humbled that someone would consider nominating me, let alone take the time to do so. I enjoy the work I do immensely and feel very privileged to be able to do it."
Avril Devaney, CWP's director of nursing, therapies and patient partnership said: "This nomination is formal recognition of Penny's skill and dedication. It is a tremendous achievement and we are very proud of her. At CWP we encourage all staff to aim for the highest standards and Penny is an exceptional role model for others."
The Cheshire Woman of the Year awards has been running for the last 26 years and raise money for the NSPCC. The ceremony will take place at Eaton Park on 6th April and money raised this year will support the charity's vital helpline services, ChildLine and the NSPCC Helpline.
Rachel Walker, NSPCC community fundraising manager said: "I congratulate Penny on being nominated for making a real difference to the community. Cheshire Woman of the Year is a celebration of all those wonderful women of Cheshire who contribute to their communities in so many ways and many are 'unsung heroines'.
"This is a way of paying tribute to all of them and giving them the recognition they deserve. Well done to all the nominees for all their tremendous achievements."
