Three fire crews were called to a chimney fire on Mobberley Road in Wilmslow on the evening of Thursday 24th March.
One fire engine from Wilmslow attended the scene at 6pm and confirmed the fire was in an old chimney within a three-story farmhouse. They requested additional pumps for staffing and a hydraulic platform for access therefore one appliance from Knutsford and one from Macclesfield assisted.
The fire was at ground floor level and confined to the chimney but it took hours to put out and ensure the building was safe.
The firefighters attacked the fire from the hearth using chimney rods to extinguish it, whilst the hydraulic platform conducted an assessment from above, using a thermal imaging camera to locate hot spots in the chimney on the first and second floor levels.
The water jets were used to protect the roof space and the two floors of the farmhouse whilst a large fan assisted with clearing the smoke.
