A home on Ullswater Road in Handforth has been left damaged by an electrical fire.
Five firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled a fire in the first floor bedroom of a detached house last night, Wednesday 22nd March.
The fire was caused by a set of hair rollers and caused significant damage to the floor joists and bedroom floor.
Firefighters were called to the house at 8.13pm by the owner who returned home to discover the hallway was full of smoke. High pressure fans were used to ventilate the property.
Group Manager, Pete Walsh was at the scene, he said "The crews were confronted with an extremely difficult incident. The property had become smoke logged and there was a real risk of a backdraft, explosion which can be extremely dangerous to those trying to fight the fire and can result in the total loss of a property.
"The firefighters involved did a fantastic job in handling this challenging situation and preventing further damage to the property."
The crews, from Poynton and Macclesfield, used specialist ventilation fans and hose reel jets to fight the fire.
Pete added "I must stress to anyone who uses heated rollers, hair straighteners and such like to ensure that they are unplugged when not being used. It is all too easy for the heat they give off to start a fire."
