New weekly classes are coming to Wilmslow offering local residents the opportunity to learn a system of self-defence which is used by Special Forces around the world.

Krav Maga, which means Contact Combat in Hebrew, is a proven system of close quarter self defence which originated from Israel and has been growing in popularity over the last several years.

Originally taught to the Israeli army, Krav Maga has been developed and adapted for use in everyday life as a new way of protecting yourself.

Paul Riches, from Krav Maga System, said "Krav Maga is becoming very popular all over the world. It is easy to learn, practical and extremely effective as self defence for women and men alike.

"In class we teach how to escape from locks, holds, bear hugs and many others. We also teach how to defend against multiple attackers, counter attack, how to prevent any of these situations happening and even to run before the situation even occurs.

"Our classes are designed to build up your stamina as well so a good work out is on the cards and students can grade every six months if they have progressed well enough."

Wilmslow classes will be ideal for beginners and start at 7pm on Wednesday 6th April. The weekly classes will take place at Wilmslow High School and be run by local man Chris Murray, who graduated as an instructor last year.

Chris had to endure 180 hours of intensive instruction and grading under the scrutiny of expert level instructors from Israel.
