Hockey: Men's team struggle in Wales

Wilmslow Men’s 1st team had an early start as they travelled to a wet and windy Colwyn Bay for a game in which the visitors started comfortable favourites.

It began smoothly for the Oakwood Farm outfit when Westbrook found Keune who slotted home after only a minute. Fuelled by over confidence, Wilmslow reverted back to their old style hockey leaving the defence and Pickering in goal helpless against some good counter attack hockey. Goals from Eden and Westbrook prevented the Welsh side going in to half time in the lead.

The second half was much the same with injuries to Si Rogers and Sam Holt leaving Wilmslow with 9 men for much of the half. In an end to end game, both teams exchanged goals before Keune slotted home what was thought to be the winner.  It was undeserved however and punished in the dying seconds when Colwyn equalised to make it 6-6.

Promotion chances are now slim for Wilmslow who have only themselves to blame.
