CLS Care Home resident, Gladys Swain celebrated her 105th birthday today, Friday 17 September, with family and friends at The Hawthorns care home in Wilmslow. Gladys, who has lived at the home for almost a decade, was treated to a very special party with music from local singing duet, Kim & Dave.
Home Services Manager, Danielle Hollyoak, comments: "As well as being our oldest resident, Gladys is also one of our longest-staying residents. Gladys is a marvellous lady and having her here has always been an absolute pleasure."
Today, Gladys was delighted to receive her second birthday card from the Queen, having received her first on her 100th birthday in 2005. Now, having passed the 105th year milestone, Gladys will get one every year.
A former librarian, Gladys is part of the generation of Britons who have lived through two World Wars. A young girl of nine at the start of the First World War, Gladys was in her mid-thirties, and a full-time mum, when the Second World War began in 1939. Her late husband, Bernard served in India for four and a half years, becoming a Captain in the Army.
