Wilmslow Town Council expands staff team

Wilmslow Town Council has recruited a Community Coordinator to develop and implement initiatives that increase the visibility and impact of Wilmslow's community groups, and support the development of community activities.

Lorna Williams joins the Town Council team with experience in working with younger person groups most recently at Youth Federation charity and the Town Council are keen that this sector is central to the success of the new role.

At its budget meeting in December 2024, the Town Council set its precept request of £683,295, equating to a band 'D' property charge of £55.93 and a 50% increase on last year.

One of the new initiatives provided for within the expenditure budget for the year 2025-26 was the employment of additional staff to support Community Groups and volunteers, to deliver events and to manage our aspirations for enhancing the maintenance of communal spaces, such as streets, squares, green spaces and pedestrian areas (c£105k).

Lorna will now be the first point of contact between Wilmslow Town Council and all Wilmslow community groups. Over the coming weeks, she will be trying to contact as many existing groups as possible, with a desire to trying to identify needs and how she can help.

The role of Community Coordinator is new to Wilmslow Town Council and an addition to the staff team, based at Wilmslow Parish Hall, that consists of the Town Clerk (Matthew Jackson), Assistant Town Clerk (Helen Richards) and Communications Officer (Sophie Taylor).

Wilmslow Town Mayor, Cllr Tim Higgins, said, "I would like to personally welcome Lorna to the team. "A strong volunteer network is important to any community and is a central feature of what makes Wilmslow such a great place to live. By supporting this sector and by encouraging it to grow, the Town Council hopes that the sense of community will continue to develop for the benefit of all."

I was against the the idea of another level bureaucracy when they split Cheshire a decade ago One of the few that even bothered to vote!
I said then that this was only just the beginning when told it would only cost us £13 per month
So here we are £55 per month and CEC wanting a 10% increase council tax too! ( failed)
As a pensioner I ask where does this stop
I am beginning to believe now it will take a Farage government to bring us to our senses Even though I hate the idea
