Closure of last remaining single-handed GP surgery

Over 1200 patients have been informed they need to register with a new GP when Hawthorn Lane Surgery closes at the end of June. The surgery operates as a single-handed practice, the last remaining one in East Cheshire, and as such will be closing when Dr Chung retires on June 30th.

The current premises which Dr Chung practices from are not compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act or quality standards for infection control, and therefore are deemed not suitable for primary medical services so the Primary Care Trust (PCT) have decided against renewing the lease.

Patients of Dr Chung, which includes 533 from Wilmslow and 34 from Alderley Edge, have a number of choices where they can register, which include Wilmslow Health Centre, Kenmore Medical Centre, Handforth Health Centre, Chelford Surgery and Alderley Edge Surgery, all of which are accepting new patients.

Speaking about his retirement Dr Chung said "I have been privileged to take over this practice from my predecessor Dr Zabron and a number of respected general practitioners before him on 9th June 1986. The past 24 years has been a long unmitigated job satisfaction and I thank you all for the loyalty and friendliness you bestowed on me and my staff over the years."

He added "It is ironic that a fervent believer in the virtues of a single-handed practice like me should patronize the closure of the last remaining single-handed practice in East Cheshire but I have no doubt you will find alternative excellent primary care in the area."

Should patients of Dr Chung require any further information or assistance, they can ring the PCT on Freephone 0800 5877888 Monday to Friday from 9am until 5pm.
