Introducing The Pownall Tigresses, of Pownall Hall School in Wilmslow. Forming in September 2023, the Tigresses have already competed in several local tournaments and, due to their unwavering dedication to training and inspirational team unity, they are cementing their place in the world of girls football and creating a powerful legacy for all who follow.
On Sunday 21st January, the Tigresses travelled to Manchester City's home of women's football - the Joie Stadium, for an experience of a lifetime.
On arrival, the girls were greeted by CityZens representatives, our dedicated tour guides for the afternoon, who led the Tigresses behind the scenes for fun in the Fan Zone, including target practice, an inflatable goal which measured the speed of your strike, and other traditional games such as table football and table tennis.
Leading up to the main event, our Tigresses were given dedicated time to practise their positioning before heading onto the Joie Stadium pitch for a team picture with the Man City Women's team just seconds before kick off - wow!
An exhilarating match followed between Man City and Liverpool, witnessing a total of 6 goals throughout the game, including a hat trick by Man City's Khadija Shaw. Adding to the excitement for our Tigresses, there were a number of England Lionesses playing, including Alex Greenwood and Lauren Hemp who were in the starting line up for England's World Cup final in 2023!
Following the final whistle, the Tigresses were guided backstage to Autograph Alley, to meet and get signed memorabilia from Lionesses Laura Coombs and Esme Morgan, Scotland's Sandy MacIver, and Spanish national Laia Aleixandri.
This proved to be a wonderful experience to inspire our Tigresses on their football journey, and further develop their love for the game.
An exciting future awaits! Go Tigresses!
