Rotarians support work of local groups

Wilmslow and District Rotary held a Dragons Den evening on Tuesday 21st November, inviting groups to showcase their projects at a presentation attended by rotarians, family and friends.

Three local groups were invited to the new event where they had to explain what they would do with the money if successful in their bid.

Presentations were made by Time Out, who are developing a special multi media project and need a music teacher, Tempo, an amateur musical theatre group for children aged up to 18 years, and Wilmslow Youth, a charity for young people aged 11 to 18 years with a drop in centre offering workshops and a counselling service.

Time Out were awarded first prize of £1100, Tempo were awarded £450 to go towards their forthcoming production of Oklahoma in March 2024 and Wilmslow Youth were awarded £450 to support their work with young people.

Secretary Ian Bradley said: "This is the first time we have done a "Dragons' Den" style of event and it was a huge success. All those receiving money had great ideas and interesting stories to tell. Tempo, like us all, are facing rising costs so we want to help them put on their next production in Spring 2024 (Oklahoma). Wilmslow Youth have an increasing number of young people who need support.

"The Time Out Group are looking to provide a new music and multimedia activity. All these are local charities and I am sure that there are many others that we could potentially support in future years."

Ian added "Rotarians are currently preparing to visit streets across Wilmslow, Handforth and Heald Green with their much loved Santa float. The children love it and the parents even mention they can remember coming out to see Santa when they were children."
