Handforth Scouts achieve top award

Scouts Gold April 2023

This week, four determined Scouts from 1st Handforth Scouts achieved the highest award a Scout can earn, the Chief Scout's Gold Award.

To achieve this Struan Bird, Dylan Connolly-Hart, William Killilea and Liam O'Brien, had to complete Challenge Awards, plus six Activity badges over the past three and a half years.

The Chief Scout's Gold Award shows that they have given new challenges and activities a go, worked as a team, and developed new skills. All four Scouts joined 1st Handforth 8 years ago and have worked their way through Beavers, Cubs and now Scouts to achieve their Chief Scout's Gold Award.

Scout Leader, Nige Lowe said; "This week was an immensely proud day for the 4 Scouts who finished their 3 ½ year journey with us at 1st Handforth, but did so with achieving the highest award in Scouting...the Gold Scout Award. It's also an immensely proud day as for the whole Scout Troop, as gaining this award is something that is seldom achieved.

"It certainly wasn't easy for them though as it has taken dedication and hard work both in and out of Scouts as well as continuing scouting through the Covid lockdowns. However, is truly deserved as it has been an absolute pleasure to have has these Scouts in our troop and they will all be sorely missed.

"We are delighted that Struan, Dylan, William and have achieved their Chief Scout's Gold Award. The Leaders at 1st Handforth have shown exceptional focus and commitment to help our Scouts achieve this award, despite the challenges of the lockdown and the need to embrace virtual scouting at times."
