Grants awarded to local football club and Friends of the Carrs

Two new Community Grants have been awarded by Wilmslow Town Council, to Friends of the Carrs and Wilmslow Albion Football Club.

Friends of the Carrs – a group of volunteers committed to the maintenance and improvement of the Carrs Park for the benefit of the local community - has received £157 to fund their insurance costs. The insurance will cover their numerous activities in the Carrs, such as litter picking, control of invasive species, river bank maintenance, tree planting and grass cutting.

Wilmslow Albion Football Club – one of Cheshire's oldest active football clubs, based on Styal Road - has received £1,625 towards site maintenance. The funding will be used towards the costs of the maintenance of trees that overhang the pitch and are a potential risk to players and spectators, and interventions to improve grass growth and prevent water logging.

Wilmslow Town Council Chairman, Frank McCarthy, said of the grants, "It is a pleasure to support local groups which encourage people to spend time outdoors.

"Wilmslow Town Council has funded a wide variety of community projects this financial year and we look forward to considering further Community Grant requests from April 2023."
