The Green Room Theatre will present a tall tale this Christmas, with the Pulitzer prize-winning comedy 'Harvey', a 6ft 3inch rabbit 'Harvey' by Mary Chase.
The light-hearted comedy and long-running Broadway hit set in the 1930's is about Elwood. P. Dowd a gentleman and conversationalist and his very strange best friend a 6ft 3inch rabbit called Harvey.
Elwood. P. Dowd talks to everyone he meets in the street extending a kind invitation to dine at his house with the giving of his card. He returns home one day to find his Sister Veta and her daughter Myrtle-May hosting a party he was not told about. Elwood loves company and begins to introduce himself and his friend Harvey, a 6ft 3inch rabbit who is nowhere to be seen.
Veta having had enough of her brother's shenanigans, plans to have him committed to Chumley's Rest mental institution, and speaks to a Dr. Sanderson. After they have spoken, Dr. Sanderson believes that Veta herself is crazy and asks Miss Kelly, nurse to escort Elwood out of the building and commit Veta instead! Once Dr. Chumley, the owner of the mental institute hears of the confusion, he sets out to put things right and to find Elwood and his furry friend Harvey.
Tasked with pulling this rabbit out of the hat is Director Sonia Dykstra who said: ''The play takes a light hearted and funny look at how important friendship is,
and how true friendship can withstand any challenge thrown at it. Given the challenging times we have all had over the last couple of years our friends and
friendships have rarely been more important than they are now.
''We have an excellent cast which includes fine comedy actors Ian Tyler who plays Edward P Dowd, last seen here as Jeeves in our critically acclaimed production of 'Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense', Richard Sails playing William Chumley and Victoria Johnstone playing Veta Louise Simmons.'
Whilst Harvey is a comedy, and there is a matinee, this is not a pantomime and it is not a play suitable for younger children.
Harvey runs from at The Green Room Theatre from 3rd to 10th December at 7.45pm with a matinee on Saturday 10 December at 2.30pm.
Tickets, priced £12 and £10 for members, are now on sale at www.greenroomwilmslow.org.uk or via 01625 540933.
