Wilmslow will be skating into Christmas

The town council has revealed its plans to turn Wilmslow into a winter wonderland over the coming Christmas period.

The festivities will kick off on Saturday 19th November with a day of yuletide activities, culminating with a light switch-on event in Bank Square.

From 10:00am until 5:30pm visitors will be able to browse a Christmas Market, see Santa's Reindeer Parade, enjoy music and live entertainment with performances from the Rock Choir, CHYPS, Stagecoach, Wilmslow High School's Jazz Band and Ashdene Choir.

Wilmslow residents and visitors can also look forward to a host of other activities including a synthetic ice rink which will be located in Bank Square from Friday 9th to Sunday 11th December.

This will be followed by the launch of the town's 12 Days of Wilmslow Christmas initiative which will feature various free and chargeable activities including pantomime, wreath decorating, carol singing and cookie making with the help of a wide range of businesses, organisations and community groups.

The brainchild of Tim Harvey, Director of Music for St Anne's and St Bartholomew's Wilmslow, the 12 Days of Wilmslow Christmas runs from Tuesday 13th to Saturday 24th December and will also feature the popular Wilmslow Christmas Tree Festival.

Christmas in Wilmslow 2022 is being funded by Wilmslow Town Council with support from Wilmslow BID. The BID officially launches on Tuesday 1st November.

Frank McCarthy, Chair of Wilmslow Town Council, said: "As we come to the end of a momentous, historic and challenging year and head towards a new era, on behalf of the town council and all its councillors we hope these events can shine a light on the town and bring some much-needed joy and happiness."

Angela McPake, Vice Chair at Wilmslow Town Council, added: "Christmas is undoubtedly one of the highlights of my year and I am so pleased that between Wilmslow Town Council and the BID, we have a really fantastic plan for the festive season. We may all need something to look forward to and the programme really does have something for everyone."
