The Wilmslow Civic Trust have commended a redevelopment project in Styal.
Meadow End on Hollin Lane was recognised by a recent presentation of certificates by Trust Chairman, Stuart Kinsey on a visit to the new properties in Styal.
The project replaced a dilapidated 2-storey arts and crafts style house and garage with two new brick clad houses of timber frame construction, each with five bedrooms.
Stuart Kinsey said "The houses are identical, but this is not obvious from the road because one is set at right angles to the other taking advantage of the corner location of the site. They are three storeys with the second level within the roof space - so that they sit comfortably alongside the adjacent buildings, all of which are either one or two storeys.
"The design is unmistakably contemporary; the property proportions have been carefully considered and are pleasing. The Wilmslow Civic Trust considers that the redevelopment represents a good example of residential design, worthy of a commendation."
The Wilmslow Design Awards scheme has been running for many years and seeks nominations for projects completed in a calendar year. Nominations for 2022 will close on April 30th, 2023 and can relate to new buildings or substantial renovations / improvements.
The panel of judges for 2021 comprised three retired architects of different backgrounds and a local historian. Criteria for awards or commendations are: overall design, materials used, quality of construction, ecological considerations, impact on the street scene or other local factors.
