Wilmslow's second Festival of Nature launched on Saturday, 3rd September, with a family cycle ride to Manchester Airport Viewing Park and a poetry walk on Lindow Moss in the company of some expert ecologists as well as, of course, poet.
Sunday saw a Tree Walk through the centre of Wilmslow led by arboriculturist Chris Frankland who pointed out the wide range of trees growing in our urban landscape and where we could plant more.
Pippa Jones of Transition Wilmslow - organisers of the festival - said, "Thanks to everyone who attended events this weekend. We are lucky not only to have such an amazing landscape on our doorstep, but also some incredible people to help us understand more about it. Why not come and join us this week as we host lots more events to inspire and enjoy?"
The Festival has over 20 events taking place throughout September all designed to inspire you to discover more about your local environment and enjoy it. From expert talks and guided walks to films at The Rex and Green Homes tours so you can discover how to keep your energy bills down.
The culmination of this month of events is the Car Free Street Festival on Sunday, 25th September, from 10am to 4pm - during which the town centre will be closed to through traffic.
The event will feature a Pedal Powered Festival Stage with live music, performance poetry and more hosted by BBC Radio 6 Music DJ Chris Hawkins. You can sign up via the website to provide some pedal power while the bands play.
There will be a bike zone featuring all local bike shops available for bike checks and a chat, whilst Everybody Leisure will be providing some sporting challenges and hosting netball on Alderley Road.
There will be a children's activity area featuring a bike and trike zone along with craft and play activities, whilst Global Grooves will be helping us everyone get in the swing of things with their Spice Girls - stilt-walking elephants accompanied by their own drummers.
Georgie Johnson, organiser, said "We'd love everyone to come and enjoy Wilmslow as never before. Enjoy some great live music, hop on a bike and help us pedal the amps. It will be a great day out for all the family."
