Plans have been submitted to allow a pizza takeaway and delivery business to open a branch in Wilmslow.

Papa Johns are seeking planning permission to change the use of the unit at 88 Chapel Lane, formally occupied by Motrax Motor Accessories, to a hot food takeaway unit including associated external alterations.

Externally on western elevation one condenser, a fresh air intake and extract flue will be installed in association with the kitchen extraction equipment. Whilst the existing southern facing elevation shopfront (including glass, glazing and vinyl) and doors will be retained and redecorated to be finished in anthracite grey.

The internal alterations include the creation of a customer reception area including a sales counter, a kitchen containing double deck oven, preparation and dispatch area, cold storage, fridge & freezer, dry storage, a wash up area and WC.

It is proposed that the hot food takeaway and pizza delivery use would operate from 11am to 11pm Sundays to Thursdays and 11am to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

Papa Johns first opened their doors more than 30 years ago and now have branches in more than 5,000 locations in 45 countries and territories.

The plans can be viewed on the Cheshire East Council website by searching for planning reference 22/3312M.

Chapel Lane is unique because of the variety of businesses and shops which occupy a street, like streets used to be, butcher, baker, flower shop, fish shop , greengrocers, pub, and small businesses. Motrax was a special fit too and served the local area well. It’s passing is missed, but for a Pizza place chain to come in, is not good. We have takeaways enough. This will create litter, chucked away food and the new generation of hang abouts sitting on walls, sneering at passing life and gorging on thick New York Pizza, which they don’t need.
Disappointing but it can’t be stopped. I only hope that the new manager will respect the Lane, as all the other embattled businesses do, to make it as special as it is, and look after it’s welfare.
We,ll see.

I just hope the signage is made appropriate for the lane. I believe MacDonalds had to tame down their usual signage when on Water Lane. Most Chapel Lane businesses have made a real effort to create village-style signage for their shop frontage.
I’m sure any Manager worth his salt will keep the immediate area tidy and free of mess, providing the necessary rubbish bin(s). It'll be good to see another empty shop occupied and the area improved.
