Police officers are warning residents to remain cautious following reports of suspicious activity in the Wilmslow area.
Over recent weeks officers have been contacted by a number of residents who have been approached by an unknown man, believed to be in his 50s, who has asked to borrow money as he has run out of petrol.
A police spokesperson said "The man is extremely convincing and tells the victims that he will return the cash, he even takes the victims address to return the money. However, the man never returns and keeps the money.
"Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing and anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101."
