Julie Smith, ward councillor for Handforth, received a special surprise over the weekend when Handforth residents came together to provide her very own 'package of treats to enjoy over her Easter break.
Filled with her favourite goodies, including afternoon tea, jam doughnuts and the odd tipple along with some lotions to soothe her aching hands and feet, Julie was asked to attend the paddock where her surprise care package was waiting for her outside the bakery.
Councillor Julie Smith, along with members of Handforth Parish Council, has co-ordinated a neighbours helping neighbour's scheme which matches people on lockdown with neighbours or those living nearby who can help by delivering shopping, prescriptions and other essentials.
They have also been working with the Hope Centre to deliver food parcels to those in financial difficulty or without access to cash machines.
In response Julie said "Not often I'm rendered speechless but I am absolutely overwhelmed with the kindness and generosity of our community! Thank you to everyone who contributed to my wonderful 'care package' which I will thoroughly enjoy! It really was unnecessary though as I love being a councillor and representing our community, thank you all again."
