Wilmslow Road in Handforth will be closed from the junction with the A555 for approximately 100 metres north next week.
The closure is necessary to enable Morgan Sindall to carry out the construction of a tiger crossing which will allow cyclists to cross in a central area of the road without dismounting. Whilst motorists must give way to both cyclists and pedestrians.
It is anticipated that the works will take place from Monday 24th September to Thursday 27th September.

Here's what readers have had to say so far. Why not add your thoughts below.
Either way - CLOSED, you have got to be kidding!!!!
Wilmslow road is closed from the northern-most of the two A555 roundabouts as far as Lakeland's car park.
On the SEMMMS website it says "Access to Lakeland will be provided from the north and access to Little Acorns Nursery will be provided from the south".
The diversion from Handforth to Lakeland is to head along the A555 to the A34, then back along Stanley Road.
The A555 is currently closed eastbound, but is due to re-open on Monday, a couple of hours before Wilmslow road is closed.
There’s definitely a conspiracy against Wilmslow drivers going on.
I have felt so utterly sorry twice this week for all the poor drivers coming from Macclesfield down Bonis Hall Lane, Lees Road who have been held up needlessly by THREE-WAY traffic lights on Adlington Road... Not a person in site, no change to the coned off area over 36 hour’s, ZIP!
Rant over! For now!
This cavity has been the cause of a recurring dip on Adlington Road in this location for a number of years.
CEC Highways are waiting for United Utilities to find the source of the leak and repair it before the cavity can be filled in.

For many years I have paid heavy dues to be a member of a motoring club. The government which extracts those dues in exchange provides me with roads to drive on. They have allowed too many members to join or conversely have not increased the facilities required by the number of new members. When the new car park (SEMMMS road or whatever it is called) opens hopefully for a few months we will have some respite.
The Lisa Reeves announcement wasn't actaully accurate and to address other comments, the work is a wee bit more than just a few painted lines so I take much of it back - with reservation!
Morgan Sindall do appear to be managing the traffic situation and Handforth Road remains open although with restricted flow most of the day but the usual tailbacks are no worse than they have been for the past 12 months; so far it's remained open overnight.
I have to be honest and own up to not knowing exactly what a tiger crossing is, I'm now better informed and sadly await reports of the inevitable first fatal accident at this new crossing, be it a cyclist or pedestrian - it's 'strategically' placed immediately adjacent to two bus stops, a roundabout and the exit/entrance of a nursery (which, unless the authorities have made other adjustments) neccesitates some nursery users to drive obliquely across the main traffic flow without any right of way.
There are two roundabouts over at this particular junction of the A555, the one discussed above is to the north side of the A555, that to the south (Handforth side) is an accident waiting to happen since it forms the exit from Handforth Road onto the A555 westbound on-slip (towards the airport). I've been informed that the design of this section of the junction is 'unique' and took a great deal of thought to work out the best traffic solution - so be prepared to learn of pedestrians (and/or cyclists) being mown down like skittles once the whole scheme is up and running. It's supposed to be 30mph but even in its' preliminary configuration with the 'main' anticipated traffic flow unable to yet join the new A555, the far fewer local vehicles taking the same initial left turn to merge into Clay Lane are just flying into it; the wisdom of the design has been questioned by numerous residents right from when it was just something on paper but the experts knew best.
If I'm wrong, good news. If I and others are proven right, just watch those responsible disappear or disown the the project.
Now that the work nears completion, I can't really see how they couldn't have blitzed the project and then moved on.
Obviously, I'm not an expert, just one of the idiots who have silently gone along with all the chaos, closures and upheavals.
However, the other day I was sweeping one part of One Oak lane, where, when bending down to remove the dirt etc, I could smell GAS. Obviously there is more to this repair, than meets the eye.
